Dirk can not keep paintings 'on-the-wall' for as soon as he has finished one it sells! Even in the mists of a very weak economy, he has a list of commissions that will keep him busy for a long time to come. Beginning his professional painting career 25 years ago with beautiful classical stillifes that were in style of the Flemish Old Masters, his series today again draws attention to this amazing artist. Contemporary in nature, clients love them because of his wonderful display of light and color that transforms the simple and ubiquitous objects of everyday life into rich creations.

Dirk A. Walker Birmingham native and graduate of Industrial Design from Auburn University, Dirk formed an early friendship with several local artists and discovered the work and teachings of New York painter David A. Leffel, a Contemporary Master teaching at the very prestigious Arts Student League. A pupil of the Dutch and Flemish Old Masters such as Rembrandt, Velazquez, and Pushman; Leffel’s teachings of the chiaroscuro (light & dark) style of painting captivated him as a young artist. The interplay of light and shadow, through texture, shapes, and color transforms the simple and ubiquitous objects of everyday life into rich creations, and he knew the timeless quality of his work and those masters before him was how he would hope to paint eventually.      

As an artist receiving national recognition and now under watchful eyes of collectors and serious investors, his work can be found throughout Birmingham and the Southeast in some of the most prestigious homes and on exhibition at the Loretta Goodwin Gallery in the Historic Lakeview District of Downtown Birmingham.
