About "The Church" O Lord, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in time of distress, to you the nations will come from the ends of the earth and say, "Our fathers possessed nothing but false gods, worthless idols that did them no good."
This concept has been in my head for years. I had seen a very large scale painting by another artist years ago depicting Noah's Ark. I have wanted to try something similar but until recently my style and subject matters haven't really lent themselves to that look.
On the surface it's Noah's Ark, but it symbolically goes deeper. Recently, our Pastor did a series on "The End of Times;" this painting follows the words of Matthew 24:36-39. "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."
I think about the Church being there for us who choose to accept and believe in Jesus Christ and his offer of forgiveness. How as believers we need not fear troubled times, even the End of Times. So the painting shows the people of all nations coming to "The Church" for sanctuary and peace. Yet there will always be doubters, as shown in the three solitary figures on the opposite hill.
